Amy Lieu is currently the Social Media and Community Editor at KCETLink-TV for their news show "SoCal Connected." She is also a freelance reporter for El Segundo TV. Her stories are broadcasted in the city's local cable channel. She covers a wide variety of subjects, varying from health to environment. She also reports on the biggest events in the El Segundo community.
Amy was also a former Reporter-Intern at the Digital Media department of 89.3 KPCC Southern California Public Radio. During her time there, she completed online news projects and published web stories on the site's various blogs.
Her goal is to become a successful multimedia journalist. In a converging digital world, she hopes to incorporate various types of media in her journalism work, including video, print and photography.
With a multicultural background, she speaks three dialects of Chinese: Mandarin, Cantonese and Teo-Chew (a unique Chinese dialect from the Guangdong province in China). She also speaks conversational Spanish.
Possessing a strong passion for journalism, she knew ever since she was a young girl that journalism is her calling. Telling stories that can impact the world inspires her. She is especially interested in reporting on human interest stories and disadvantaged communities. She wants to bridge mainstream society with minority communities.
Amy approaches her stories with compassion and enthusiasm. Voraciously curious and motivated, she always seeks to develop herself both professionally and personally.
She graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in Communication Studies and minor in Asian American Studies in 2011.
In her spare time, she likes to spend time with family and friends. She enjoys dancing and singing karaoke. She also loves to cook, bake and try different foods. Sushi, Korean BBQ and pasta are her favorite foods, while chocolate satisfies her sweet tooth.
